Summer is definitely smoothie season and this mango maca smoothie is refreshing and revitalizing. Smoothies are my favorite way to get greens and to take supplements. Its such a simple way to combine delicious flavors with nourishing supplements. Maca has been a staple in my diet for the last few months and I started experimenting with this delicious mango maca smoothie recipe. I started a new workout regimen doing lots of hiit workouts on a bike and the result were losing a few pounds of fat a little too quickly. This left my hormones in a bit of shock as I quickly learned that when women lose fat rapidly, we release estrogen. Needless to say things were a bit haywire and I began searching for natural remedies to help balance myself back out. Maca was highly recommended and a bonus was I love the nutty flavor it adds to smoothies.
A type of cruciferious vegetable native to the Andes in Peru.
- Rich in antioxidants
- Enhances energy, mood, and memory
- Adaptogen which helps the body naturally adapt to stressors. (ex: busy schedule, demanding job, illness)
- Contains over 20 amino acids including all 8 essential amino acids
- Balances both Female and Male hormones
- Reduces Anxiety & Stress promoting healthy adrenals
I add Maca to all of my smoothies but it needs to be balanced with something a bit sweet. You can use local raw honey in a warm beverage like golden milk or in smoothies. I like to use mango and banana to balance it. I also add a nut butter and that pairs well with maca’s nutty flavor. I find that it doesn’t have any texture to it. I love how many health benefits come out of one vegetable. I purchase it in a powder form and add a teaspoon in to most all of my smoothies and golden teas. It has been helpful as I have been working to balance my hormones and add in the cardio biking at a slower pace as to not stress my body. I also eliminated coffee and have replaced it with yerba mate or matcha green tea when I really need a little pick me up. I noticed that coffee was hard on my digestion and learned its hard on out endocrine system which puts stress on our adrenals. This could hold me back from finding my way back to a healthy hormonal balance.
It’s so exciting how many naturally medicinal fruits, vegetables, roots, herbs, and plants we have to combat our health challenges.
